Disco is alive and well

So I knew that after looking at a few of the scratch videos, my only choice was to go disco. Ok, fine. I had lots of other choices, but the break dancing sprite was just calling my name. So I wanted to make my sprite, Break Dancing Bobby, do some sweet moves. I didn't really get to the sweet moves yet, but I was able to make him rotate between costumes and rotate the position so it vaguely resembles someone doing some break dancing. Hopefully by week 4 I can have him do the whole dance from Napoleon Dynamite:)

Maria's Scratch reflection

I started playing with Scratch about a year ago... Two days ago, I downloaded it again and I realized that I wasn't able to remember much! So I started experimenting with it again. I looked through all the options I had with the controls, the sounds, movements, backgrounds... I started with the yellow cat.. :) and then I added a butterfly... I happily discovered that I could have her say hello through the controls and also change her size from the buttons above the white screen.

Kate's Scratch Reflection

The first day I worked with Scratch I stumbled around trying to figure out how to work the scripts. It seemed slow moving, but then it all ‘clicked.’ After my first Scratch, I asked my daughter to work with me. We made one together. Then she made one independently. We alternated for a few. Then ended the evening making one more together. During this process, we discovered that some of the “Sprites” had script attached. That’s when we started to modify and apply it to our own creations. It was very rewarding to spend that time together and learn something new – side-by-side! We were teaching each other – and as a cheesy “EDUC-mom” – that evening will go down in history as one of those moments we won’t forget……she kept saying, “Isn’t this fun, mom!?”

Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to your new blog! To get started, you need to create a group identity. Discuss with your group and decide on a new title for your blog. Also, please choose any theme you would like to further your group's identity. To communicate, you can use the Oncourse groups to email one another. We noticed that your group had a lot of things in common, including an interest in videogames, MMPORGs, and other "extreme" learning technologies.
